One of the most interesting parts of Bel Canto is the ability of the singer to express themselves with added ornamentation, variations and cadenzas. Pacini is a unfairly neglected contemporary to Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini. He was a great composer and certainly deserves to be revived more often. He was popularly known as the “King of the Cabaletta” due to his fondness of the musical expression in his works.
This recording benefits from the Polish dramatic coloratura Jolanta Omilian, who gives a impassioned reading of the title role.
