38 Sopranos in the Puritani Mad Scene

One of the most interesting parts of Bel Canto is the ability of the singer to express themselves with added ornamentation, variations and cadenzas. This improvisational quality is highlighted in the following collection of historic and modern singers in the Mad Scene cabaletta from I Puritani, “Vien diletto”.

30 Sopranos in “Bel raggio lusinghier” from Semiramide

Semiramide was Rossini’s last opera composed to showcase his wife the famous soprano Isabella Colbran. The main attraction for sopranos in this marathon role is the solo aria “Bel raggio lusinghier” which allows the singer to display a full range of coloratura fireworks and occasionally a high E.

This collection of singers range from mezzo sopranos to high coloraturas who manage to make the aria work even if the role isn’t suited to their vocal type.

I hope you enjoy!
